Writing with Language Learners
Primary StrategiesProvide students with an audience for their writing piece.
Provide sentence stems for students' writing. Provide students with the opportunity to speak (to themselves on an iPad, to a partner, to a small group, etc.) before beginning to write. Provide word banks on a given topic. Word banks can include phrases. Provide short models of exemplar texts. Have level 1 and 2 students copy good, short pieces of text that model a correct grammatical structure, punctuation rule, etc. |

Provide short exemplar texts. Have level 1 or 2 students copy short, strong samples of good writing (for grammar, punctuation, etc.). |
